The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) implemented the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Knowledge Co-Creation Program for Reinforcement of Meteorological Services 2023. Running from 2nd October to 12th December, the program marked its half-century milestone, bringing together National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) from: Argentina, Armenia, Bangladesh, Djibouti, Laos, Mozambique, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

As a comprehensive curriculum for prospective leaders within these organizations, the course covered crucial areas such as numerical weather prediction, disaster risk reduction, satellite meteorology and climate information.

The program not only commemorated 50 years of expertise sharing but also served as a platform for the growth of future leaders in NMHSs. By providing practical insights into substantial disciplines, the initiative aimed to empower participants with the tools and expertise necessary to navigate the complexities of meteorological challenges.

The diverse composition of the attendees reflects the global significance of roles played by NMHSs. The expertise provided by the program is expected to contribute to the enhanced capacity of NMHSs worldwide.
