Visit by NOAA Assistant Secretary Mr. Taylor Jordan
Mr. Taylor Jordan, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Environmental Observation and Prediction at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), visited the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) with a delegation on 22 January 2026.
The guests paid a visit to JMA Headquarters and met with the Director-General NOMURA Ryoichi. Both parties expressed appreciation of their long-standing friendship and cooperation in various fields, including meteorological satellites, tropical cyclone forecasting and numerical weather prediction, and underscored the significance of international collaboration in the satellite field, particularly through global data exchange, for disaster risk reduction in various countries. NOAA and JMA presented outlines of their visions and priorities, and provided detailed updates on their respective meteorological satellite developments. The visitors were also given a tour of JMA’s forecast operations room and a briefing on the workings of weather forecasting.
