Visit by FMS Director Mr. Misaeli Funaki
Mr. Misaeli Funaki, Director of Fiji Meteorological Services (FMS), visited the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) with a delegation from 26 to 27 November 2025.
On 26 November, the delegation visited the Meteorological Research Institute (MRI) and the Regional Instrument Centre Tsukuba (RIC Tsukuba) operated by the Meteorological Instrument Center (MIC), where they discussed on-going collaboration in the areas of marine meteorological services as well as calibration of meteorological instruments.
On 27 November, the group visited JMA Headquarters and met with the Deputy Director-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, MUROI Chiashi. Both sides expressed appreciation for the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two organizations, including close collaboration between the Regional Specialized Meteorological Centres on tropical cyclones Tokyo and Nadi, and agreed on further strengthening of collaborative efforts in various fields. FMS and JMA each outlined their services, with particular focus on the importance of enhancing decision support services relating to disaster risk reduction. The delegation also toured JMA’s forecast operations and press conference facilities.
