Visit by DMS Commissioner Dr. Bob Alex Ogwang

Dr. Bob Alex Ogwang, Commissioner of the Department of Meteorological Services of Uganda (DMS) visited the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) from 2 to 3 December 2025 and met with Director-General NOMURA Ryoichi as part of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) project “Enhancing Flood Management in Uganda with Integrated Early Warning Systems to Contribute to Women, Peace and Security.” They expressed the view that the visit would provide a valuable opportunity to enhance mutual understanding and further strengthen future cooperative relations between DMS and JMA.

During the visit, DMS gave a presentation on the status and challenges of meteorological operations in Uganda and related challenges. JMA delivered several presentations on its services, including content that underlined its roles in the disaster risk management and legislation and regulations that shapes its meteorological services. JMA also introduced operation and maintenance of meteorological observation systems and climate/seasonal forecasts. The delegation additionally observed JMA’s forecast, seismology and volcanology operations, and viewed its press conference facilities.
