Visit by the CEO/Director of the Australian Government's Bureau of Meteorology
On 11 November 2024, Dr. Andrew Johnson (CEO and Director of Meteorology at the Australian Government's Bureau of Meteorology) visited MORI Takashi (Director-General of the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA)) toward the development of bilateral cooperation between the two organizations in the field of meteorological satellites and elsewhere.
The visit produced a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) at a signing ceremony attended by Justin Hayhurst (Australian Ambassador to Japan) in advance of the next-generation Himawari -10 meteorological satellite, planned for operation in FY 2029. The memorandum marks both organizations' commitment to enhancing collaboration in the utilization of meteorological satellites and contribution to the United Nations' Early Warning for All (EW4All) initiative in Australia, Japan and the Asia-Oceania region.
Dr. Johnson and Mr. Mori also discussed the priorities and challenges of their organizations and ongoing collaboration in various areas, including international activities for Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
