Visit by BMD Director Mr. Momenul Islam
Mr. Momenul Islam, Director of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), visited the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) from 26 to 28 May 2025 with executive officers from BMD and the country’s Department of Defense, part of a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) project titled Strengthening the Capacity of Weather and Climate Services.
On 27 May, they visited JMA Headquarters in Toranomon, Tokyo. The group paid a courtesy visit to JMA Director-General NOMURA Ryoichi. Both sides expressed their appreciation for the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two organizations and agreed on further strengthening of collaboration in various fields. During the visit, JMA delivered several presentations to share its recent activities, including legislation and regulations that shapes its meteorological services, operation and maintenance of meteorological observation systems, impact-based weather warning services, and the career paths of JMA forecasters. The delegation also inspected JMA’s forecast operations and seismology and volcanology operations, and press conference room.
On 26 May, the group visited the Nagoya Local Meteorological Office to learn about JMA collaboration with local governments in particular, with regard to heavy rain and flood-related disasters. On 28 May, the delegation visited the JMA Meteorological Satellite Center and the supercomputer system in Kiyose, Tokyo.
