"JMA Workshop on WMO Information System Implementation" was organized by the Global Information System Center (GISC) Tokyo of JMA and was held at JMA Headquarters in Tokyo, from 22 to 24 October 2012. The workshop was attended by sixteen participants from eight National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Viet Nam.

This workshop was aimed at participants with an intention to deepen their understanding about WMO Information System (WIS) including the data discovery, access and retrieval services, and to share a clear view of the way to improve and implement WIS effectively. Through a number of presentations, practical exercises, discussions and technical visits, the workshop provided an opportunity for participants to more deeply understand benefits expected from WIS, current situation of WIS implementation and future plans of WIS.
