Visit by United Kingdom Government Chief Scientific Advisor Sir Mark Walport
and delegation on 5 November 2014

United Kingdom Government Chief Scientific Advisor Sir Mark Walport led a delegation including representatives from the UK Met Office on a visit to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) on 5 November 2014.

Sir Mark and the delegation paid a courtesy visit to JMA Director-General Noritake Nishide and engaged in discussions on future collaboration in the field of disaster mitigation activities.

JMA maintains favorable relations with the UK Met Office, which has developed highly accurate advanced numerical weather prediction (NWP) models.

The visitors were given a series of presentations by JMA experts on cutting-edge activities engaged in by the Agency, including work on its Emergency Warning System, High-resolution Precipitation Nowcasts, NWP models and contingency planning. The group was then given a tour of JMA's operational centers.
