A weather radar workshop was held by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) in Tokyo, Japan, from 12 to 14 February 2025 under the Regional WIGOS project called Capacity Building in Radar Techniques for Region II and Region V and the ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee's Development of a Regional Radar Network project.

Attendees included representatives from National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as a representative of the WMO Regional Office for Asia and the South-West Pacific and members of the WMO Expert Team on Operational Weather Radar (ET-OWR) from Australia and the UAE (online), and a radar expert from Barbados (online).

Two related workshops held in January/February and October 2023 involved discussions on the overall process of operations including network design, procurement, installation, observation, maintenance and data application. As a conclusion to the series, attendees at the February 2025 event summarized current situations and challenges regarding observation in Asia. For Southeast Asia in particular, achievements and lessons from regional radar data exchanges were reviewed along with future exchanges, with the aim of contributing to ongoing discussions on the Regional Basic Observing Network (RBON) in Asia. JMA also presented on the concept of future regional WIGOS project work on observation.

A summary report on the regional WIGOS project (Capacity Building in Radar Techniques in Southeast Asia) was additionally compiled.
