Ms. Nikki Kaye (the New Zealand Minister of Civil Defence, Minister of ACC, Minister for Youth and Assistant Minister of Education) visited the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) with a delegation on 21 May 2015 in conjunction with her attendance at the 21st International Conference on the Future of Asia (held from 21 to 22 May).
Ms. Kaye and the delegation paid a courtesy visit to Noritake Nishide, the Director-General of JMA. The two leaders exchanged ideas based on their experiences and future views toward disaster mitigation in relation to earthquakes and tsunami.
The visitors subsequently discussed early warning systems with JMA experts on seismology, volcanology and disaster mitigation, and were then given a tour of JMA's operational center.
