JICA Group Training Program: Reinforcement of Meteorological Services (24 September – 11 December 2025)
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) conducted the Reinforcement of Meteorological Services 2025 training program in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) from 24 September to 11 December 2025. This program began in 1973, and the number of participants has reached 413 in total. This year, we welcomed 12 participants from National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Lao PDR, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
This comprehensive training is designed to provide the expertise and skills required for prospective leaders within NMHSs based on two pillars. The first focuses on development of technical and practical expertise across a wide range of meteorological services, including surface observations, numerical weather prediction, disaster risk reduction, satellite meteorology, and climate information. The second emphasizes enhancement of planning capacity via specialized lectures and training on the development of action plans to improve meteorological services provided by attendees’ NMHSs.
JMA maintains its commitment to strengthening the meteorological services of NMHSs worldwide through collaboration with JICA.
