The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has successfully conducted the training program for Reinforcement of Meteorological Services 2024, held from 24 September to 11 December, in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This program started 1973 and has a history of over 50 years. The total number of participants has reached 401 in total. This year, we welcomed 12 participants from National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) in Argentina, Bangladesh, Djibouti, Maldives, Mozambique, Philippines, Samoa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
This training program aims to develop future leaders of NMHSs and provide the participants with an unique curriculum covering a wide range of practical knowledge and skills across the whole value chain of meteorological services including surface observations, numerical weather prediction, satellite meteorology, warning services, public-private engagement as well as planning skills through the development of action plans for further improvement of their own NMHSs.
JMA, in cooperation with JICA, will continue to provide this unique training program to develop future leaders of and work together with NMHSs of developing countries, to strengthen meteorological services worldwide.
