Recovery of MTSAT-2

Japan Meteorological Agency
7 Nov. 2007
  • After the recovery efforts, the Multi-functional Transport Satellite-2 (MTSAT-2) has recovered from the malfunction of the attitude control detected at 1440 JST (0540 UTC) on 5 November 2007, and its air-traffic control function started its normal operation at 0330 JST on 7 November 2007.
  • The meteorological observation function was confirmed to be in normal status at 1100 JST on 7 November 2007 and has been put back into normal backup mode.
  • It is presumed that the cause of the malfunction is improper functioning of the thruster for the attitude control. The spare thruster is functioning properly and assures normal operation. The Civil Aviation Bureau and the Japan Meteorological Agency will continue further investigation in this issue.
