Visit by World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Secretary-General Prof. Petteri Taalas on 27 February 2019

World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Secretary-General Prof. Petteri Taalas paid a visit to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) on 27 February 2019.

Professor Taalas held discussions with JMA Director-General Dr. Toshihiko Hashida, who serves as a Permanent Representative of Japan with WMO, and other senior JMA officials. Agenda items included high-priority issues for WMO such as WMO Constitution Body Reform, public-private engagement and further potential for Japan's contribution to WMO activities. Professor Taalas also gave a presentation titled WMO 2030 outlining a global agenda in the fields of meteorology and climate as well as related WMO activities.

Professor Taalas additionally talked about WMO activities, candidate qualifications and positions with WMO at a career seminar held jointly by WMO, JMA and Sophia University. The event was attended by around 50 young professionals and students, and was followed by an active question and answer session.
