Joint meeting of Global Space-Based Inter-Calibration System (GSICS) Research and Data Working Groups
(28 - 30 January 2009)

Global Space-Based Inter-Calibration System (GSICS) is one of the projects of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and its mission is to provide users with high-quality and inter-calibrated data of operational satellites. Since 2008, the GSICS member organizations have successfully provided users with inter-calibrated infrared data of geostationary satellites through members' websites. The GSICS Research Working Group (GRWG) and GSICS Data Working Group (GDWG) advise and assist in the planning and implementation of GSICS research and data management activities respectively.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) hosted the fourth GRWG meeting and the third GDWG meeting from 28 to 30 January 2009 at its headquarters building. In the joint session of this meeting, 20 researchers/experts from China, France, Republic of Korea, the United States, EUMETSAT, JAXA and the WMO Secretariat reviewed actions made by members since the last meeting, and discussed the way to share algorithms for inter-calibration of the satellites. In the breakout sessions, members reported its activities and discussed algorithm for inter-calibration including those for visual channel in GRWG, while in GDWG members reviewed current system to exchange the data and information related to GSICS, and discussed establishing new web servers for common use for GSICS activities.
