T-PARC Operations Meeting in Tsukuba, Japan (7-8 April 2008)

Participants at the entrance of the Tsukuba International Congress Center (7 April 2008)   T-PARC Operations Meeting was held at the Tsukuba International Congress Center in Tsukuba, Japan, from 7 to 8 April 2008.

  This meeting was held to discuss the implementation plan of the T-PARC (THORPEX Pacific Asian Regional Campaign). T-PARC, research activities in the Pacific region that includes intensified observations aiming at better typhoon forecasts and will start from June 2008. Thirty-four participants from Germany, Korea, the United States and Japan attended the meeting.

  As a part of this project, JMA plans to implement drop-sonde observations from airplanes and other special observations, including upper-air observations at the JMA's observatories and research vessels, as well as to perform typhoon forecast experiments.

* THORPEX (THe Observing System Research and Predictability Experiment) was established in May 2003 by the Fourteenth World Meteorological Congress (Resolution 12) as a ten-year international global atmospheric research and development programme under the auspices of the WMO Commission for Atmospheric Sciences (CAS). THORPEX is a component programme of the WMO World Weather Research Programme (WWRP).
