Visit by the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization

World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Secretary-General Mr. Michel Jarraud visited the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) on 20 March 2014 in conjunction with his attendance at the main World Water Day celebrations held in Tokyo from 20 to 21 March.

Mr. Jarraud paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Mitsuhiko Hatori, the then-Director-General of JMA and Permanent Representative of Japan with WMO. Dr. Hatori briefly outlined JMA's work, and the two leaders exchanged views on the collaborative relationship enjoyed between JMA and WMO.

Mr. Jarraud also listened to a series of presentations by JMA experts on various matters highlighting JMA's international and national roles, including emergency response measures for Typhoon Haiyan, observation quality improvement for National Meteorological Services, WMO Information System operation and Japan's Emergency Warning system.
