Dr. Manuela Soares (Director, Environmental Research, Directorate-General Research and Innovation, European Commission) visited the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) on 20 January 2012.
Dr. Soares made a courtesy call to Dr. Koichi Uhira, Director-General of Seismological and volcanological Department of JMA. JMA has participated in the REAKT project (Strategies and tools for real time Earthquake risk reduction) and shared the knowledge and experience on "Earthquake Early Warning". This cooperation will contribute to further development of EEW systems in Europe and Japan. After the courtesy call, Dr. Soares received explanations on the services on weather, earthquake and tsunami by the experts of JMA and had a tour of JMA's operation room.
